Christ’s Hospital, Horsham

When a Grade II* listed boarding house in one of Britain’s oldest boarding schools required external repairs and redecoration, MacConvilles was entrusted by Christ’s Hospital to project manage all aspects of the restoration on this heritage-rich site as part of an ongoing partnership. Designed in the late 1800s by notable architects Webb & Bell, the impressive boarding houses at Christ’s Hospital play a fundamental role in the daily lives of the pupils.

To help Christ’s Hospital preserve their historic estate, MacConvilles work closely with the school’s Project Manager to devise forward maintenance plans that identify priorities and implement any work needed – in this case, to one of the 18 boarding houses. To ensure the standards and quality of the building are maintained, MacConvilles reviewed condition reports and identified the scope of external repair and redecoration works required. From this, we put together a detailed schedule of works, managed the tender process and prepared the JCT Minor Works contract documents. Once works were operational MacConvilles took on board the full contract administration duties for the project – overseeing any variations, conducting site inspections, issuing instructions and carrying out monthly valuations to ensure the repairs were timely and offered Christ’s Hospital the highest standards and value.
