Cafe Refurbishment at University of Brighton

Following refurbishment the ‘book & bean’ café in the Cockcroft Building on the University of Brighton’s Moulsecoomb Campus is now open.

The Moulsecoomb Campus is one of the University’s three main sites with the ten storey Cockcroft Building, constructed in the 1960s, dominating most views in the area. The majority of the University’s administration departments are located here, as well as teaching facilities and some student halls of residence.

MacConvilles were Lead Consultants for the refurbishment of the Café outlet, which involved full strip out and demolition of the existing café outlet and preparation area.  The adjacent Santander Bank had to remain fully operational during the course of the works.

The installation of a new kitchen and preparation area, together with new serving counters, display units and the use of modern LED multi-coloured lighting, together with vibrant green furnishings, make this a welcome space for the students to unwind.

The challenge of the refurbishment was to complete the works while the students were on their summer break. Despite the discovery of asbestos, the works by Ellis Builders of Eastbourne (http://www.ellisbuilders.co.uk/) were achieved in time for the students return.
