At MacConvilles we always have one eye on the future. From embracing new technology and practices to supporting the future generation of surveyors, looking forward has always served us and our clients well. However sometimes it is good to look back to see how far you have come which is what Craig one of our trainee Quantity Surveyors has done.
It is clear that over the past year Craig has been moving forward even whilst we have all been ‘stuck in lockdown’. He has also reminded us that MacConvilles is quite a special place to work, with no day the same and a friendly bunch around you, in person, at the end of the phone or somewhere in between and in the land of online meetings!
‘We have so many exciting projects on the go here ranging from universities and schools to crematoriums and hotels. The pandemic and working from home has not been ideal for a trainee such as myself, but I have never felt isolated, as I know my colleagues are only a phone or Teams call away and always make time to offer guidance, talking me through aspects of the job which are new to me or I don’t fully understand. There’s a real sense of enjoyment from knowing that everyone is pulling together, especially during a challenging year all around. Over the past year I have been learning to manage contracts and procurement whilst considering cost forecasting and familiarising myself with monitoring profit and loss. It so rewarding when it all comes together and you feel you have served your client well. I am also now producing internal and external commercial reports, but most of my work has been supporting the senior quantity surveyors. I have had so many opportunities to expand my knowledge and am really appreciating working on a wide range of projects with many different teams. Everyday is an opportunity to further my understanding of the construction industry and it is difficult to see that slowing down with the momentum and variety here.’
A culture of collaboration is at the core of MacConvilles and we foster this to create a working experience that is both personally and professionally rewarding. We believe that it’s important that we invest in our people it’s why we are committed to continually expanding our team’s skills and knowledge with on-going training, education and support; and Craig has definitely given us a thumbs up as a great place to start a career in construction!
