Crowborough Library Refurbishment
MacConvilles played a key role in the successful refurbishment of Crowborough Library, delivering the project on time and within budget. Drawing on our expertise in Project Management and Quantity Surveying, we tackled logistical and financial challenges head-on, while ensuring adjacent public services remained open and fully operational throughout the works.
Our team managed the project from start to finish, covering both the pre- and post-contract phases. With a proactive approach, we kept things running smoothly—coordinating teams, maintaining clear communication, and keeping a close eye on costs. The goal was more than just a fresh look; we focused on making the library more accessible, sustainable, and user-friendly. Upgrades included step-free access, wheelchair-friendly facilities, and a reconfigured layout designed to better serve the local community.
A carefully structured project timeline helped us minimise any disruption. We worked closely with stakeholders—local council representatives, contractors, and funding bodies—to keep everything on track. On-site work met all building regulations and health and safety requirements, and we managed the complex scheduling to align with concurrent window replacement works—avoiding any unnecessary delays or overlap.
One of the main challenges was working within tight funding constraints while still delivering a high-quality refurbishment. We carried out early-stage cost analysis and applied value engineering to ensure every pound was well spent—striking the right balance between cost and quality. Throughout the project, we provided detailed contract administration, real-time cost tracking, and full financial oversight to avoid budget overruns and reduce risk.
Funding came from the county council’s capital budget, earmarked for investment in public buildings. In addition, the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting was supported through an interest-free loan from a government-backed scheme, designed to help public sector buildings cut energy use while covering the cost through savings on future bills.
