MEND Grant Secures the Future Powell-Cotton Museum.

The Powell-Cotton Museum, home to irreplaceable historical artefacts and natural history collections, has been awarded a vital £1.1 million grant from the Museum Estate and Development Fund (MEND), which is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and administered by Arts Council England. This grant will fund essential repairs that are critical to the museum’s future.

MacConvilles Building and Quantity Surveying teams were key in securing the MEND grant, working alongside Lee Evans Partnership and Caroline Taylor Consulting.

MacConvilles, in collaboration with the Lee Evans Partnership, conducted a detailed assessment of the museum’s condition, identifying numerous backlog repairs, particularly on the roof, which threatened the valuable collections below. Working closely with the museum curators, the project team designed repair solutions prioritising the complete protection of the artefacts.

The £1.1 million MEND grant will allow the necessary repairs to proceed throughout the summer of 2024 and into 2025. This vital funding ensures the museum’s continued ability to preserve its collections for future generations. This successful application marks the second significant MEND grant secured by MacConvilles, the first being a £1.5 million grant for the Brighton Museum.
