Back to vacancies

MacConvilles is a long established, multidisciplinary construction consultancy based in the South East. With a proud reputation for delivering outstanding results across sectors including residential, education, healthcare, commercial, leisure, ecclesiastical and industrial projects, we combine technical expertise with a genuinely personal approach.

We’re growing — and now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Architectural Technologist to join our close-knit, talented team. You will lead technical design as an Architectural Technologist and support our Principal Designer function under the Building Regulations, with the opportunity to develop further in this area as our building safety team grows.

The Opportunity

Your work will be led by technical design. You’ll develop and coordinate design information from concept through to construction, produce detailed drawings and specifications, resolve buildability and detailing problems and act as a technical point of reference for project teams and clients across a diverse portfolio.

Alongside that, you’ll support our Principal Designer (Building Regulations) function — assisting with planning, managing, monitoring and coordinating design work so that building work is designed to be compliant, assuring information at each stage and liaising with duty holders, designers and regulators. You’ll work closely with colleagues already carrying this role, building your experience and providing additional capacity as the team expands.

If you already hold Principal Designer (Building Regulations) experience, you’ll be able to build on that from the outset. If you don’t but you have the technical grounding and the appetite to develop into it, we’ll invest in getting you there.

This is a hybrid role, blending office collaboration, site engagement and remote working — offering the professional challenge of high-profile projects with the flexibility to support your work–life balance.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll bring substantial architectural technology experience, with the confidence to lead a technical package and the judgement to know when a design decision needs to be challenged. Strong organisational, communication and stakeholder-management skills are essential, along with a proactive, collaborative and adaptable approach.

We’re looking for someone educated to degree level (or equivalent) in architectural technology or a related discipline, ideally supported by chartered membership of a relevant professional body (such as CIAT, RIBA, CIOB or RICS) or progress towards chartered status, being advantageous.

You should be able to interpret and apply the Building Regulations, Approved Documents, British Standards and associated guidance and to produce and coordinate design information to a high technical standard.

You’ll have proficiency in CAD and ideally BIM authoring software, together with strong IT and written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrable CPD in building safety and regulatory compliance is important, as is the ability to support design and compliance reviews, manage competing priorities and build effective relationships with clients, designers, contractors and regulatory bodies.

Desirable attributes include existing experience acting as Principal Designer under the Building Regulations, familiarity with the Building Safety Act 2022 and the gateway process, a NEBOSH Construction Certificate and/or relevant competence development aligned with PAS 8671 — but we welcome candidates with the drive and capability to develop in these areas.

Above all, you’ll share our values: bold in your approach, curious in your thinking, adaptable in your delivery, loyal to your team and clients and committed to building on our proud legacy.

Why Join MacConvilles?

We offer the best of both worlds: a close knit, friendly team that supports one another, and the scale and diversity of projects that keep things ambitious and rewarding. You’ll be given autonomy to lead your work, the trust to influence project outcomes, and the encouragement to shape and develop your own areas of specialism — including a clear route into building safety duty holder work.

In return, we offer a competitive salary of around £40,000+ (dependent on experience), 22 days’ holiday plus bank holidays and a Christmas break, a discretionary bonus scheme, pension, healthcare, life insurance, flexible working options, EV salary sacrifice scheme, cycle to work scheme, on site parking, and payment of professional fees.

We’re proud to offer hybrid working and a culture built on transparency, collaboration and long term thinking. MacConvilles is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to fostering an inclusive environment for all.
