Streat Hill Farmhouse, Hassocks
The original 1950s house was completely destroyed by a devastating fire in 2017. In its place, a stunning new scheme has been created which will sit harmoniously within its downland surroundings overlooking the South Downs Way.
Streat Hill Farmhouse has been designed with hyperlocal sustainable principals at its heart. Designed by BakerBrown Studio, this new family home minimises its impact on the natural environment by re-using and recycling existing materials and reducing waste. The existing fire damaged building will be carefully deconstructed and as much as possible re-used.
No masonry waste from the existing house will need to leave site; it can be re-purposed into rubble fill for gabion walls and crushed for hardcore fill under the slab. Key materials such as the bricks and sweet chestnut timber cladding will be sourced locally. Streat Hill Farmhouse is designed with passive energy design strategies to achieve off-grid living.
MacConvilles are delighted to be able to play a major role in helping construct this ground breaking new eco home.
