New Build Specialist Care Home: Haviland House

Haviland House is part of a wider development on the former Northbrook College site in Worthing. MacConvilles provided project management, cost consulting and quantity surveying throughout the build, working closely with teams on adjoining sites to ensure that shared access, services and resources were best managed to ensure all projects were completed without delay.

The dementia care home was created with the purpose of catering for residents with dementia at all stages of the illness. Since we had already built up a working relationship with Guild Care through previous projects, we were able to use our knowledge of their services to develop a design brief that would suit their requirements and create a warm, friendly home for both staff and residents.

One of the most important aspects of the home was that it should be a space that residents would find familiar. It had to be a low-maintenance building, to help reduce running costs and ensure that the residents were rarely disturbed with noisy building works. We were careful to use materials that would provide a long-term robust finish, in order to meet this requirement.

The project took 52 weeks to finish, with costs closely controlled throughout the works, in order to meet the agreed budget. In fact, the finished building was completed to a high-spec and delivered under budget. The client was advised of the roles and duties of Principal Designer ensuring the project was delivered safely and the home was open for occupation in early 2015. MacConvilles were present on site from project inception through to completion.

Since then, Haviland House has been able to provide exceptional care for its residents. It is now recognised as the only dementia nursing home on the south coast to have achieved Level 1 accreditation from DCM (Dementia Care Matters). MacConvilles are proud to have been a part of the team that helped Guild Care achieve their care home goals and hope that they are able to continue to provide high quality care for many years to come.
