Eco Refurbishment & Whole Life Costings: Community Base Brighton

MacConvilles achieved the right balance between cost and outcome on the refurbishment of this central Brighton Office Block. Our Full Condition Survey and Environmental Audit enabled the Whole Life Costs (WLC), calculations of  several potential refurbishment and repair options.

In establishing WLC for each option the Freeholder was able to adopt  a ‘true value for money’ approach.

Viewing the costs of each option alongside their respective projected running costs and property life identified the most cost-effective approach.

The external walls and failing concrete insulate were repaired and corroding inner steel bars replaced. Existing facia panels were renewed with panels of specialised aluminium and insulation and new replacement double glazed units installed.

Community Base now boasts a reduced carbon footprint and running cost of 26%.

These repairs and improvements have significantly increased the building’s life and thermal efficiency whilst dramatically reducing levels of noise pollution from the busy road outside. This transformed Brighton Office  will now provide comfortable, environmental and economical work spaces for many years to come.
