Today MacConvilles staff enjoyed a blustery day at The Brighton Beach Clean. The beach clean and marine litter survey was organised by ZST architects (ZSTa) with the support of Brighton and Hove City Council ‘City Clean’ and looks like becoming a yearly event.
Over 200 locals and some not so locals gave their time to the task collecting 320 kg of litter. Our own Sarah Billings got her gloves out again (this time gardening rather than marigold), to help clear the beach, “We all had a good time and collected such a wide array of objects from glass bottles, fishing line and nets, disposable BBQ’s, cable ties, ribbon and lots of bits of plastic.”
Marine life is under threat from the waste and litter in our sea and on our beaches. Events such as this not only help keep our beaches and waters clean but educate and inform us of our responsibility to the environment. Information collected on the litter found today will be added to the data of hundreds of other beach-cleans across our coastline and will be used by Marine Conservation Society to tackle the rising problem of marine litter.
